IntelliRing - The ringmaster of your ringtones and alert sounds

As phones have become more powerful, they've also become easier to use, consistently finding clever new ways to make our lives that little bit easier. We can now pretty much tinker with every part of the smartphone experience, and there are plenty of definitive apps out there that users all agree are the best at what they do.

IntelliRing wants to be the go-to app for sorting out your ringtone and notification volumes. You tap the screen a few times and tweak a few settings, then you're able to get on with your day, safe in the knowledge that IntelliRing will keep you alerted when you need to be, and stay quiet as a mouse when you don't.

It's a simple system, and it works reasonably well. There's a lot less tinkering involved than with other ringtone apps on the market, which make you create profiles and set GPS points for when their style of alert changes.

For some, that's going to be a blessing; for others, the lack of functionality will be a big disappointment.

The main page

After walking you through how the app works, you're taken to the front page. There are options along the top, and tapping the power button in the bottom right of the screen will turn off the service. Everything is well designed, and pleasing to look at, and there are enough help markers and how-to’s to guide you through any trouble

Notification stations

You need to manually allow the app to interface with the email, SMS and other communication apps you use, letting it intercept the notifications and decide how loud or quiet they should be. It's not a perfect system, but it mostly worked when we tried it out. Although, granting the different permissions individually can be a little bit time consuming.

It's oh so quiet

The ring sat in the centre of the screen allows you to silence your phone for a set amount of time. You press the screen, then drag your finger to set the amount of time you want to shut off notification sounds for. It’s helpful if you're going to a meeting, or somewhere you need to keep your phone quiet for a specific period of time.

Value:Sleek and well designed, but IntelliRing could do with some more features.
